Twelve Days of Christmas Patterns: Day 3

89553_900

Hi All!

Sorry I’m a little late with the third pattern. I was having a little trouble with it and truth be told I’m not all that proud of how it turned out. I pictured it a lot differently in my head and throughout the design process but I couldn’t figure out how to translate my design effectively. I definitely plan on revising it later this month or maybe even next year for Christmas. Anyway, today’s pattern is for another stocking. I wanted to design a crocheted stocking that didn’t use granny squares because I thought it would look more elegant and modern.

??????????Here’s how it turned out.

The pattern:

I used Red Heart Shimmer in Ivory (A) and Simply Soft Caron yarn in Autumn Red (B) and a size G hook.

Special stitches:

Foundation single crochet (fsc): Insert hook into the base of the previous stitch and pull up a loop, yo, pull through first loop. yo pull through remaining loops. (If you need help, go to this video by Tamara Kelly author of mooglyblog.com).

Double crochet 2 together (dc2tog): Yo, insert hook into stitch, yo, pull up a loop, yo, pull loop through first two loops, yo, insert hook into same stitch, yo, pull up a loop, yo, pull loop through first two loops, yo, pull loop through remaining loops.

Decrease Double crochet (ddc): Yo, insert hook into stitch, yo, pull up a loop, yo, pull loops through first two loops, yo, insert hook into next stitch, yo, pull up a loop, yo, pull loop through first two loops, yo, pull loop though remaining loops.

Repeat this pattern again to make second half of stocking. Sew the two sides together.

Using Autumn Red (B) yarn, join at top of stocking and Ch 3. Dc in each stitch around. To make sure you don’t have large gaps where the stocking was sewn together, insert extra dc in each space. (54 dc).

Ch 3. Dc in each stitch around. Sl st in top of ch 3. Repeat round 4 more times.

Fold over this section so that it covers up the top of the white stocking.

Sew on any embellishments you want to the top part. I used the poinsettia from Day 2 on my stocking.

I know that this isn’t perfect and needs some adjustments but I hope you enjoy it anyways. Perhaps it will inspire you to create your own (better) version of this stocking.

Thanks for reading!
